Rick Faller wrote a sympathy message

“I worked with Phil for 7 years while at the Oakland Tribune. He was a member of the Tribune Go-Getters for many years after his retirement. When my wife and I traveled to our reunions Phil would come pick us up at the motel the night before and we would go to Doc Crolls for dinner in Alameda. We have great fond memories of Phil going back to the old days in Alameda going to Raider and Oakland A's games. Phil will be missed by all who knew him. Our condolences go out to all his friends and family.”

My brother Mike, got his first route with Phil out on Bay Farm in Alameda in the 60s. I still recall Phil's patience with my brother and his 2 friends, the Cheng brothers. He reminded me of a patient teacher. Blessings and Peace to all who knew him and loved him.

Phil was my District Advisor way back in 1973 when I was a carrier in San Leandro district 720. I called him Mr. Kennedy back then. He really was a carrier friendly D.A. He was one of the D.A.'s that inspired me to eventually become a Tribune D.A. myself from 1978-1982. I thought it was really neat when he returned to the Tribune as Circulation Manager. So, cool to have my former D.A. now as the big boss! R.I.P. my friend. You were a great mentor & leader, to me & many others.

Respectfully,
