Jim was born James Andrew Flaherty to Martin Flaherty and Catherine
Hageman in Oakland, California. . Jim was 89.
He is survived by his wife Sheila (Fredericksen), two
children Brian (Laura Wagner) and Jessica (Brent Weisbrod), and 2
grandchildren Sadianna Flaherty and Kallen Flaherty and numerous family
members. He was the second in a close family of 8 children and attended
school K thru 12 in Oakland and Berkeley.
After attending Cal State San
Louis Obispo, Jim spent 4 years in the Air Force, 3 of which were in
Madrid, Spain. After a few years as a house counselor at the Hanna Boys
Center he joined the transportation department at the Oakland Tribune
working street sales, home delivery, driving truck and ending in the
driveway insert position. After the Tribune sold he worked driving for
Kaiser Hospital Labs, the Center for Elders and Sunrise Assisted Living.
Jim’s favorite activities over the years were skiing, duck hunting with
Ronnie Conine, and fishing and he liked traveling both domestically and
abroad (no tours please). He was a friendly, outgoing Irishman who
liked to make people laugh. He had many good friends and knew everyone
in the neighborhood including anyone who walked their dog past the
house. He will be missed by all, but especially his family whom he loved
very much.
Friends of Jim may post message at bottom of this page.

RIP Jim All the golden Retrievers Will be waiting for you in heaven
Thanks for posting Jim Flaherty's Obit. We all have good memories of him and his sense of humor, his kindness and trust-worthiness. Our circle is shrinking- it's a fact of life. ,
What a kind and friendly man. I remember seeing his smiling face when he entered the 5th floor office of Circulation, spreading good cheer to us "college kids" who worked the room there.
Jim was a MAN of kindness and respect for all people, we interwined many time over the years as I had the pleasure of being the District Mg for the young ones(8) that took care of the route that was left on there porch on Alcatraz Ave. Jimmy an I also had the pleasure of sharing a few beers together with many stories of our early days at the Trib, It was always a pleasure to see him and his wife at the luncheons .HE WAS A FINE MAN.
