After his graduation from Alameda High School, he went to work on Rob Wagner's Script Magazine in Los Angeles. He also worked on the Alameda Times Star and the Oakland Post Enquirer, for which he conducted the "Pete Post" column.

Ten years ago he came to The Tribune. His assignments here have been varied, including several years as the "Daily Knave," as editor of real estate news and lately as financial editor.

Mr. Braue was winner of a Joseph R. Knowland award and edited an award-winning special section put out by The Tribune on the opening of the Kaiser Center. He also wrote a series of widely-read feature stories on the origins of Eastbay cities.

His hobby was magic, and he was a member and past president of the Oakland Magic Circle. At the time of his death, he was editor of Hugard's Magic Monthly.

He was co-author with Jean Hugard of two books, "Espert Card Technique" and "The Royal Road to Card Magic." He also wrote a number of magazine articles on magic.

Mr. Braue was also interested in music and drama and was one of the early members of the Alameda Little Theatre. He also was well known as a master of ceremonies at public events.

Scores of business and civic leaders were numbered among his personal friends.

Mr. Braue is survived by his widow, Annette; two children, Eugenia Anne, 14 and Frederick Gilbert, 11, two sisters, Mrs. William Bender of Los Gatos and Mrs. Jonathan Tibbitts of Central Valley, and an aunt, Mrs. Robert S. La Motte of San Anselmo.
