Faye Barry



 

January 12, 1921 - December 13, 2018

Faye is now at peace after passing on December 13, 2018 from a broken heart after the passing of her husband Charles W.  Barry on July 17, 2017. Faye enjoyed her final days at home with her daughter, Wendy  Barry-Brier and her son in-law, Charles Barry-Brier II. 
Faye was born in San Francisco, moved to Ross California in Marin County as a child and settled in Oakland for the rest of her life. She attended Roosevelt High School in Oakland regularly met with her classmates for lunch. Faye began working at the Oakland Tribune in 1938 and continued there until 1975. She began her employment as an outside Ad taker under the direction or Mr. Morton McDonald. Faye was promoted to Supervisor of Classified Advertising Phone Room. Later she was the first woman chosen to be promoted to the Department Director in 1972. Truly a trend setter being the only woman at the time in holding such a high position for a U.S. metropolitan newspaper. She attended Columbia University in NYC where she studied Journalism. She furthered her education by taking business courses at UC Berkeley as well as courses in Art, Real Estate, and salesmanship.
Faye Married the love of her life, Charles W. Barry in 1942. The two stayed married for 75 years. They became proud parents when their daughter Wendy J. Barry was born in 1956.  
Faye enjoyed square dancing with her husband Charles and was a long time member of the P.E.O.
