Barbara June Mims, born in Berkeley and longtime resident of Pinole has passed away at her home.

Born October 19th 1936, Barbara was 88 years old. She is survived by her loving daughters, Debra Mims and Diane Mims-Crane and six grandchildren Johnnie, Amanda, Justin, Megan, Natalie, and Katrina.

Her other loving children, Dan and Janet preceded her death.

Barbara had a green thumb, taught by her mother Mary from a young age. She worked first for the United States Postal Service and then the Oakland Tribune where she was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of the Teamsters, helping fight locally for worker’s rights. She was a dutiful caregiver, looking after her mother and daughter Diane for many years.

A viewing will be held on Sunday March 30th , beginning at 11:00AM to be followed by funeral services the next day on Monday March 31st at 12:30PM. Services will be at Sunset View Mortuary in El Cerrito.

* I was a very close family friend of the family for 50+ years. Barbara  had a car route delivering newspapers for me for years after her husband left her with their four children,  She then applied for a job with the Tribune and worked relief until I transferred to Transportation.  When the Tribune folded she was hired by the Times and worked the same area but larger until she retired.  She got sick and had a caregiver who arrived for duty on  3/12/25 to find she had passed away. Her service was at Sunset View Cemetery on 3/31 which I attended with  her family.
