 Angela Rose Beard-Mann of Reno died at home on December 31, 2023. She was 74.

Angela was committed throughout her lifetime to her family, her Catholic faith, the communities in which she lived, and as a journalist, a newspaper editor, and owner.

During her 33 years as a Washoe County resident, Angela was a whirlwind in local and regional activities. She became known for her enthusiastic planning and carry-through of programs for local schools, the Boy Scouts of America, Sparks Republican Women, and the Knights of Columbus, among other organizations. Much of her community activity was tied in with her skills as a reporter and editor. Angela was an editor at the Reno Gazette Journal and Sparks Tribune during most of the 1990s and the first years of the 21st century. She worked on the news and sports desks, doing page layouts, writing and editing stories, assigning stories and photos, and representing the newspapers at community events.

In 2007, Angela and her husband, Richard, bought the Comstock Chronicle, a weekly newspaper in Virginia City. She wrote, edited, designed, and photographed for the Chronicle. They had a home office in the Storey County community and Angela was familiar face at government offices, businesses, schools, and local events.

In 2015, they sold the Comstock Chronicle to enjoy the activities of a busy retirement, focusing on their family. Angela's hobbies of sewing, quilting, gardening, and cooking were put to good use with her two grandchildren in Reno. Angela also was an excellent cook who enjoyed teaching, preparing, and sharing her delicious entrees, desserts, and specialty items.

In addition to caring for the pets and livestock of neighbors, Angela was a Eucharistic minister, photographer, bulletin editor, and participant at Holy Cross and Immaculate Conception Catholic churches. Angela volunteered for more than 20 years with the Knights of Columbus, earning the nickname "Iron Lady" for her positive attitude and tireless work ethic.

Angela was born in Contra Costa County, California. She graduated from El Cerrito High School, and California State University, San Francisco. She began her professional career as a copy editor at the Daily Review newspaper in Hayward, CA from 1970 to 1979. She then went to the Oakland Tribune, where she met and married her husband Richard, and started a family before moving to Nevada.

In addition to her husband Richard, Angela is survived by her son, Andrew Mann, his wife Cristina and their children Jordyn and Maverick; Stepson Tim Mann, his wife Trish and their children Isabell and Frank; Stepson Kevin Mann; and her brother Amos Beard. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Margaret Beard, and her twin sister, Margaret Beard.

Visitation will take place from 3:30 to 6:30pm on Thursday, January 18th, at Walton's Funeral Home, 1745 Sullivan Lane in Sparks, NV. Funeral services will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, January 19th, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2900 North McCarran Boulevard in Sparks, NV. Burial will be at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery, 2700 North Virginia St. in Reno, NV following the funeral. Donations in Angela's memory, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2900 North McCarran Blvd, Sparks, NV 89431.
