Joseph Keith Travis was born in San Jose CA, on June 24, 1899. He died in Oakland CA, on July 8, 1965 at the age of 66.
After graduating from high school, he entered the U.S. Army officer training in San Jose in 1918 and then served in an Army training camp in Texas, until WWI ended.
Later Keith became a home delivery district adviser of The Oakland Tribune circulation department in 1932. He was appointed assistant circulation office manager in 1943 and became office manager in 1947.
Keith died in a tragic auto accident that occurred at the corner of 13th and Franklin street when he was on his way to work. It is believed he left the auto transmission in gear when he exited the vehicle. When his wife Nettie, moved over behind the wheel she evidently stepped on the accelerator and the car lurched forward through the intersection striking Keith and killing him.
