Oakland Tribune entertainment and restaurant columnist Perry
Phillips, 67, died Sunday in John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek after
suffering a stroke.
Mr. Phillips, who sold advertisements and wrote the "Night Sounds" column, began working at the Tribune in 1962. He lived in Alamo and was a native of Oklahoma.
Mr. Phillips was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Ascension, 4700 Lincoln Avenue in Oakland, where a service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m.
A trisagion service will be held tonight at the church at 7:30.
He was active in choral work with the Greek Orthodox Church and past president of the Oakland Opera Board. During World War II, he was a member of the 2671st Special Battalion of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughters Frosene Maniatis of Walnut Creek, Elena Phillips of Los Angeles, Venetia Phillips of Venice and Joanna Harris of Pebble Beach; a son, Peter Phillips of Dallas; and two grandchildren.
The family prefers contributions to the Perecles Phillips Fellowship Fund, Orthodox Institute, 2400 Ridge Road, Berkeley 94709.
